Move from Wix or Squarespace to WordPress

Plan a visual-editor rebuild, bring over supported content, and preserve your domain, page addresses, and email.

You do not have to give up visual editing when moving to Lizard Hill. WordPress with the free Elementor plugin provides WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) drag-and-drop page editing. It is an alternative editing workflow, not a Wix or Squarespace template converter. Installatron installs WordPress; you add Elementor within WordPress. Optional Pro features and other third-party subscriptions cost extra.

What actually transfers?

Wix: Wix says its site platform must run on Wix's infrastructure. There is no supported full Wix-site export that can simply be restored as a working WordPress site here. Plan to rebuild the layout and move content and media you own or have permission to reuse. Connected applications, stores, bookings, and memberships need separate replacement or transfer plans.

Squarespace: Its WordPress-format XML export can bring over supported content, but not the complete appearance or every feature. Styles, custom CSS, store pages, and several other content types are outside that export. A limited content import is not a finished website migration.

  1. Make a page and feature checklist. Record every important address, page title, heading, navigation item, image, contact form, and integration. Save licensed originals of your media. List products, orders, subscriptions, bookings, and member data separately; identify a supported export/import route for each before promising continuity.
  2. Keep the old site live. Leave its website and email services active while building and testing the replacement. Save DNS records, especially MX, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC. You can keep your domain registered with its current provider; transferring registration is not required just to change hosting.
  3. Install WordPress and Elementor. Open Installatron in the assigned DirectAdmin account and install WordPress into an empty destination. In WordPress, use Plugins → Add New to install Elementor Website Builder from the official plugin directory. Choose a compatible theme and test the visual editor on a draft page. A staging copy uses account storage and may need a website/subdomain slot.
  4. Bring over supported content. For Squarespace, use its Import & export content panel to export for WordPress, then use WordPress's importer. Check downloaded images individually. For Wix, rebuild pages from your authorized content and original media. Do not merely embed the old site: that still depends on the old platform and is not an independent migration.
  5. Rebuild and test the useful parts. Use Elementor or WordPress blocks to recreate navigation and page layouts. Implement forms, shop, bookings, and memberships with suitable tools, checking licenses and privacy settings. Verify mobile layouts, accessibility, forms, SMTP, and payment behavior before accepting real transactions.
  6. Protect important page addresses. Keep slugs where practical. Create explicit permanent redirects for changed URLs, then check that each points to the correct replacement page. Carry over page titles and descriptions thoughtfully. A move cannot guarantee unchanged search rankings.
  7. Launch in sequence. Follow the website, DNS, and email cutover checklist. Confirm the assigned server address, HTTPS, and external mail routing. Keep both subscriptions until you have checked the replacement on another network and accounted for ongoing orders, messages, and third-party services.

Where our AI assistant can help

The Lizard Hill Natural Language Interface can help you draft or update website files from content you provide, and propose supported file and hosting changes for your review. Supported customer-supplied attachments can be published to an approved website path after confirmation. It is not a verified one-click Wix/Squarespace-to-WordPress or Elementor importer. Public pages alone do not include private databases, mailbox history, customer accounts, orders, or the original builder's editable project.

Enable DirectAdmin Two-Step Authentication and connect your own supported AI account to use NLI. AI-provider charges and limits are separate. Never put passwords or private customer records into a public scraping request.
