Understand website allowances, DNS records, shared resources, and SSL renewal.
Add an independent website
In DirectAdmin, open Account Manager → Domain Setup → Add New. Business allows three primary domains/websites, Business Plus five, and Business Pro ten. Personal allows one. Each website has its own domain directory but shares the hosting account’s storage and resources.
Add an alias
Use Domain Pointers for another domain that points to an existing website. A pointer does not create a separate application or another independent website. Point its DNS to your account and verify that its certificate covers the alias when using HTTPS.
Issue and renew SSL
- Ensure the website’s A/AAAA records point to the assigned server; check any CDN/proxy or restrictive CAA records.
- Open SSL Certificates for the domain and choose the supported free/automatic certificate option. Include only names you control that resolve correctly.
- Request the certificate and review the result. Then enable HTTPS redirection if appropriate for your application.
- DirectAdmin manages renewal of eligible automatic certificates. Keep DNS and validation reachable; an old DNS record or changed proxy configuration can prevent renewal.
Ten websites in one account are not ten isolated hosting accounts. They share the Unix account, permissions, storage, and resources. Use separate hosting accounts for stronger separation between unrelated customers or workloads.
